My Hero

Everyone of course has a hero. Most people probably look up to famous actresses or actors, famous politicians, or even superman. Mine is not an everyday typical hero. My marine is my hero. I do not tell him nearly enough and its horrible that I don't the more and more I think about it. He isn't a typical hero with superpowers and there are very few people like him in this world. He lives hundreds of miles from him family and friends on a normal day and visits rarely. He joined to straighten out his future, but on the day he left for boot camp he told me that he was going away to be "a superman." Which I know is cheesy, but it helps when I get lonely. He said the same thing last May when he got deployed as well. He gets so happy when he does things that makes a difference. Like this spring we went into my little sister's school to talk about being a marine, and just to see their faces was unforgettable. Especially when my 7 year old sister stood up and said, "This is Bryan. He is my hero." So me and my sister share our hero, which is totally okay with me. I know a lot of you are all spouses or the girlfriends of amazing heroes as well. So lucky to be us to have these incredible men or women in our lives that we get to be honored to know and plan the rest of our lives with. But I read this article this morning about how not all "military men" should be considered heroes and it kinda made me upset. I understand that there are some "not so great" guys out there, but all of these men and women enter the service to basically put their lives at risk and to keep us safe here at home, and they are not allowed to be considered heroes? I may not be looking at it in the way I should be, but to me I feel everyone who serves for their country and risks their lives to help others should be considered a hero. I wish that I could find the article again to share with you all. So if you all have a special hero story, please share it with us.

"A hero is a man who does what he can."
"A hero is someone who understands the responsibility that comes with his freedom"

The Bucket List

Yesterday, as I worked my rare shift at Dick's Sporting Goods, I met another employee whose boyfriend was just deployed to Afghanistan. I felt her pain. He left only two weeks ago, she is getting ready to be a freshman at PITT and the summer that is going to change her life the most, he got deployed for at least nine months. So as we talked, which I might add, it was so wonderful to finally have someone so close to home in the same situation. Everyone is either married, getting married, having a kid, or just living around the base of there marine. Not to say that is not what I want, we are just in a different place in our lives, where somethings need to be done. Anyways, we talked about so much which was so great and as we kept talking it made me think about all of the things that I want to do in life. All of the things that I keep saying I am going to do and then blow them off for something else. So I decided for the first time, I am going to write down my "bucket list." Bryan and I continually say that we are going to do things, and we do, just usually not within the time I would have liked. For example, we just went to The Andy Warhol Museum last weekend after me wanting to go since high school. I should not complain though, we both are so busy, and the times that we do get to spend with each other, usually consists of visiting friends and family. Rarely having an actual day or weekend to ourselves. So I am purposing a "bucket list." Things that I want to do in my lifetime. Things that I always say I am going to do, but then in reality never actually do them.

Catching up with life.

I have been so insanely busy the past few weeks, I have barely had a chance to breathe. It has been camp after camp, after extra shifts at Dicks, many visits with friends, celebrating my 20th birthday, and seeing Bryan. Last week was my favorite camp of the summer. It was music camp. It is such a wonderful camp to be apart of. We are blessed to have so many different children who come from all different backgrounds and disabilities. I came here to help these children with what I know and in return they actually teach me way more then I could ever ask. This video was just something that our staff put together to send to the parents in preparation for the music concert that we had on Friday evening. It made me super excited to see that I was in it helping out my one camper! I know I look rough, but it was early in the AM and the last thing that anyone wants to do is to get up and look like a movie star.

The campers at the beginning of this video are both blind, the boy played with Stevie Wonder and just meeting them I was blessed and thankful for everything that I have. Helenka is from Poland, she is the one I am helping on the bells. She sang me Happy Birthday in Polish on my birthday, which coming from a Polish background was one of the coolest things that I could ever ask for. So all in all, even though it was my 20th birthday and I worked all day long. I cannot imagine spending my birthday any other way. As we keep growing up, everyone has full time jobs, lives farther away from each other at school, and to get everyone together during the week is almost impossible. So 2nd best thing was to work and have my life be blessed by these amazing kids. I know I only turned 20, but for once I actually feel older. If that makes any sense. I know it is such an in between age, but to say that I am no longer a teenager. 20 sounds like such a solid age.

As I lay here on the floor, with my Sonic Mocha JavaChiller in hand, I really start missing my love again. He just left about an hour ago, and has a 10 hour drive right into a long day of PT and work. I wish so badly that for once he could just stay home or that I could go with him, and that we would not have to always have this feeling every time we go back to living the lives without each other. I finally have a day off of work and it was great to spend the entire day, let alone weekend with Bryan.

We each got to choose a day. His day was Saturday. We made each other dinner and laid around all day watching movies and sitting on the front porch enjoying the amazing thunderstorms that Pennsylvania has. Although it drove me crazy to not be productive or actually do anything all day, it was still a wonderful day just being able to "hangout" at my house, that im still in the middle of moving into, and live a normal day. Today was my day! Of course, I got to do something for my birthday since he was unable to make it home during the week. We went to the Andy Warhol Museum that I have been wanted to go to for years, but have been waiting for a good time that Bryan could go with me. We went with a few other couples, which was so great since I never actually get to be apart of "normal couple" activities since Bryan on a typical day is 600 miles away from me. After a few hours in the museum, we went over to the Benedum and saw "The Producers." Joey Fatone was a star in it, and after meeting him this week and him talking about the show I really wanted to make it down to the city to see it. It was hilarious and for once I got to do things that is out of the usual for Bryan. He seemed to really enjoy himself though, and at first although he was doing it for me, I really loved after when he asked me if we could see shows on a regular basis.

So now I wait until I get to see him again at the end of August. I really wish it could be more often then that, but as of now this is how our lives are and this is how we are dealing with them. I have a busy rest of the summer until I get to see him, so it will fly by. I work all week and then double shifts at Dick's all weekend. Then camp for another two weeks, and then Haiti for a week! I am so excited and for the first time today, I felt scared that something could happen. I just need to trust in God though and everything is going to be fine. I am going with friends and am blessed to be able to go on such a trip!

Until I have another free minute,

Happy Fourth!

"Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better"

Happy Belated Fourth! Of course I was working at The Woodland's all weekend so I did not get to actually celebrate, but I did get to spend the weekend with some great kids and adults here at The Woodlands. Bryan did get a 96 too and I really only got to see him a few times, which is extremely upsetting since I really never get to see him and during the summer, The Woodlands consumes my life. But I can not imagine not working at this camp and being with all of these crazy kids and adults with disabilities who have had such an amazing impact on my life. Everyday is life-changing.

I picked up Bryan on Friday evening at the airport and we went up to my house at school and just spent the night and caught up on everything that has been going on since the last time we got to see each other. Making me miss him that much more. Then I was off to work for the weekend and then I did get to see him last night from about 6 til this morning at 5AM. Needless to say, this morning was basically a hurricane of emotions and I had to put on a smile because thats what you always have to do here for the campers. Which is always a great part about the Woodlands. I can pretend that I am having an amazing day and not worry about the real life drama or upsetting news that usually is going on in my life. This is why working here at camp last summer was so wonderful, it made our first deployment fly by and took away all the typical down time that I usually during the summertime.

So on such a great weekend here at the woodlands, on one of the greatest holidays in US history... this is my life and it has not been too exciting. Music Camp is coming up though and one week until my birthday. Bryan is making another trip home to finally spend another long weekend together and to be together for my birthday. Also our four years is coming up, which makes me super happy, even if I do not get to see him on the exact day.

Until I get another free minute,
Cee
